Un-boxing the Palm Treo Pro
The Palm Treo Pro comes with a rather interesting retail packing. First of all, the retail box is small and with a “cut” at an angle at the bottom making it slanted while standing. This also makes it stand out from other display in the shop.
Open up the cover reveals the Palm Treo Pro (very much like Apple iPhone packaging). Inside the box shows the accessories neatly packed (divided by recycled cardboard).
Inside the box comprises the following accessories.
- Wired headset
- USB AC with 3 different adapters
- Sync Cable
- 2GB Memory card
- 1500 mAh Battery
- Manuals
There is no CD, pouch or extra stylus inside the packaging.
First Impression
When we first saw the Palm Treo Pro, we were very impressed with the design. It is currently the thinnest Palm Treo series with so much features built-in. The design of the phone is modern with curve at the right places. Glossy Obsidian black gives it a classy feel but it is very prone to finger print and scratches.
Screen comes flat without edge is a great design as it minimizes dust built-up. Just like previous Treo series, there are many useful buttons on the PDA. E.g. 5 Way Navigator button, Windows button, OK button, Calendar & Email/SMS button, Call and Hang-up button.
On the top of the phones is the ON/OFF button, Silent/Mute Slider button.
Not many PDA nowadays comes with IR (Infra Red) transmission. Located on the right side is the Wireless button with the IR port.
On the left side sits the UP/Down button and Camera button. You can also change the button mapping.
At the bottom is the headphone jack and also the sync cable jack. Do note the sync cable on the Treo Pro is different from other Palm Treo series.
Using the Palm Treo Pro
Some of the key difference Palm did to this PDA is the main screen google search button, screen saver with time/miss call notification and also the auto key lock function.
Since this device is manufactured by HTC, Palm have also license some useful software/utilities and included them into the Palm Treo Pro.
- HTC Task Manager
- HTC Communication Manager
- HTC Camera Software
Since Palm Treo Pro does not comes with CD, it comes pre-loaded with the required Windows Active Sync desktop software in the device itself. The first time you connect it to your computer it will run and install automatically.
